2013 Trip to Tanzania

Welcome to our family update...there are several pages, one for each of us, so please use the blog post list on the right hand side to view them all.

We went to Tanzania after Dale was finished with her field study program, picking her up and going on safari.  We had a terrific trip, going to three different national parks.  We were amazed by the variety of the landscape and wildlife between the three, and loved sleeping out in the bush in tents with few humans around.  It is hard to fall asleep to the sound of lions roaring (supposedly half a mile away, or at least that is what they told us) or hyenas whining.  The scariest moment was when a field mouse got in to the kids' tent!  And that was on the same day an elephant charged our land cruiser…

The Serengeti is an amazing place, reminiscent of what the west in the U.S. must have looked like several hundred years ago, with tens of thousands of wildebeests roaming and zebras, giraffes, lions, hyenas, cheetahs, elephants warthogs, porcupines and hundreds of bird species intermixed.  We had terrific guides who answered all our questions and kept us safe throughout.

Below are some of our favorites of the 5,000 photos we took...

The girls slept through much of the trip!

We did get close to the animals!

Accommodations were amazing for tents...

We had fabulous guides...Killerai

and Chagamba.

The cars were our roving houses with tables and chairs for picnics.
